SILVER SPRING, MD –   The American Nurses Association (ANA) has long supported evidence-based research into the therapeutic use of cannabis, as outlined in the position statement Therapeutic Use of Marijuana and Related Cannabinoids. Rescheduling cannabis to Schedule III advances public health by expanding access to rigorous research, supporting evidence-informed clinical care, and reinforcing patient safety through regulated study and oversight.

On behalf of America’s nurses, I want to express my gratitude to the more than 140 members of Congress who signed today’s bipartisan, bicameral letter urging the Department of Education to include post-baccalaureate nursing degrees in its definition of ‘professional degree.’

The ANA reaffirms its strong support for immunizations as essential to protecting the health of individuals, families, and communities following a vote by the CDC ACIP to discontinue the universal recommendation that all newborns receive the hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth.
